HC grants regular bail to Sukhpal Khaira in money laundering case
In a major development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday granted regular bail to Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a money laundering case.
Earlier in the day, Mohali special court had issued directions to the jail authorities to produce Sukhpal Singh Khaira before returning officer on January 31 for filing nomination.

In case some issue arises, Khaira will be produced again on February 1, the court added.
Soon after Sukhpal Singh Khaira was granted regular bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Khaira's son Mehtab Singh Khaira said, "Friends, I am happy to announce that the Hon'ble High Court has ordered the release of my father Sukhpal Singh Khaira on bail. This is only and only by the grace of the almighty and the result of your constant prayers. Today, we have won 50 percent of the battle against the ED-BJP and our opponents in a vicious trail of vengeance."
Earlier in the day, Punjab Technical Education Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh had urged Congress chief Sonia Gandhi "to intervene into the allotment of party ticket from Bholath to Sukhpal Singh Khaira" for the state Assembly polls and demanded his expulsion while calling him "a tainted minister" for his alleged involvement in 'drug money' laundering.
