HC stays lower court order on producing dera chief in Faridkot, allows SIT to question him in Haryana jail
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has given a major relief to Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa, head Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a sacrilege case and exempted him for physical presence in the Faridkot court.

His lawyer advocate Kanika Ahuja said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had exempted his physical presence at the Faridkot court. However, the Punjab SIT has been allowed to question him in the Sunaria jail of Rohtak in Haryana.
She said the SIT had specifically written in its application filed in the Faridkot court that it wanted to arrest him. She said since dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim was already in jail, there was no question of arrest
Notably, the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) had on October 25 issued a production warrant against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, an accused in the sacrilege case of June 2015.

The court had directed the SIT of the Punjab Police to bring him from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail and produce him before the court here on October 29. He is lodged there after his conviction in three criminal cases.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim was named as an accused on July 6, 2000, after Pardeep Kumar, a witness in the case, named him. In his statement with the SIT, Pardeep had alleged the crime of theft and sacrilege of ‘bir’ were committed on the directions of the dera chief.
