For the first time in 3 decades, the inner Himalayan peaks of Bandarpunch and Gangotri were visible from the town of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh courtesy to coronavirus lockdown that resulted in the improvement of air quality with an AQI of less than 50, reports Times of India. In the past, Saharanpur had recorded poor air quality levels of up to 300 leading it impossible for its residents to view the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Meanwhile, the pictures of the Himalayan range from Saharanpur reportedly captured by an Income Tax inspector and his wife from their residence, were shared on twitter by the Indian Forest Service officer Ramesh Pandey. He captioned: "Snow-capped peaks of Himalaya are now visible from Saharanpur! Lockdown and intermittent rains have significantly improved the AQI. These pictures were taken by Dushyant, an Income Tax inspector, from his house at Vasant Vihar colony on Monday evening." The forest conservator, Saharanpur Division, V K Jain, said that it was after more than three decades that there was such a spectacle. Reportedly, these are the same mountains which can be seen from Mussoorie. A few days ago, the peaks of the Dhauladhar mountain range became visible from Jalandhar after a long time. Similarly, a reduction in human activity has resulted in the improvement of water quality levels of Ganga and Yamuna rivers. -PTC News
