Hockey World League Semi-finals India beat Canada 3-0

India clung to its first half 3-0 lead to beat Canada for its second win in the Hero Hockey World League semi-finals in London on Saturday. Yesterday Canada had beaten Pakistan 6-0.

In the third and fourth quarters Canada tried to stage a come back and forced two penalty corners but could not reduce the first half 0-3 lead. India had beaten Scotland 4-1 in its opening game.
With goals from SV Sunil (5th minute), Akashdeep (10th minute), India took comfortable 2-0 lead in the first quarter. The lead was further consolidated in the second quarter when veteran Sardar Singh scored his first goal of the tournament in the 18th minute.India could not make use of any of two penalty corners it earned in the first half of the game. India forced three more in the second half but failed to make use of any.
Yesterday, Canada blasted Pakistan 6-0 to let other teams participating here a warning about its capabilities. Pakistan had never lost that badly to Canada in international hockey before. It was the first game of the tournament for both Canada and Pakistan.
On Sunday some vintage hockey is expected as  traditional rivals India and Pakistan play each other.
