Holy City to Host National Plenary Of Journalists
The holy city Amritsar is hosting the 9th national plenary of the Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) on October 27 and 28. It is the first that Amritsar is hoisting such a great event.
The plenary is being organized by the IJU in collaboration with the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists’ Union at Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan on the Guru Nanak Dev Union University (GNDU) premises.
The Amritsar chapter of the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists’ Union on Sunday held the meeting at the university’s guest house for the annual summit to make arrangements.
Balwinder Singh Jammu is the president of the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists’ Union. He chaired the meeting and said approximately 300 journalists across the country are expected to attend the plenary.
Expressing concerns over the problems and threats being faced by the journalists, Jammu said “It is a critical period in which journalists are being attacked and some of them are paying the price by losing their lives for practising unbiased journalism. The genuine demands of journalists have not been heard.”
Rajan Mann, senior vice-president of the union, said, “Our motto is to work for the welfare of field journalists as well as desk men, who undoubtedly play a vital role in the profession.”
