Honour killing: Brother pushed sister in Canal after he caught her talking to boyfriend
A youth pushed his 19-year-old younger sister into the Bhakra canal after he caught her talking to her boyfriend over phone at Near Century Enclave of Patiala.
The body of the victim, Preeti, is yet to be recovered. The police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Bahadur Singh (23) who confessed to have committed the crime.
The arrest was made after Preeti’s mother Sunaari Devi called the police and told about the crime committed, said Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Sourav Jindal.
“A team immediately rushed to the spot for investigation. The family handed over the accused to the police,” the DSP said.
“He took his sister to the canal side and warned her against talking to her boyfriend. She took it lightly and laughed at him. On this, he got infuriated and pushed her into the canal,” the DSP said.
“He returned home following the incident. The matter came to light when his mother inquired about her daughter’s whereabouts. He then his family that he had thrown Preeti into the canal,” the DSP said.
