IED blast by Naxals near a polling booth in Etapalli in Maharashtra
Naxals triggered an IED blast near a polling booth at Etapalli in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Thursday. No injuries have been reported so far.
Earlier in the day, security forces arrested four Naxals in Bedre area in Chhattisgarh. Three country-made guns were also seized from the Naxals. Also, a blast was reported from near a polling booth at the Dandwan area of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur at 4.15 am. When the blast occurred, security personnel and polling officers were present at the booth. No damage to life or property has been reported.
Polling for 91 Lok Sabha constitutions across 18 states and two union territories is underway.
The constituencies going for polls in the first phase are – 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 5 in Uttarakhand, 4 in Bihar, 7 in Maharashtra, 5 in Assam, 4 in Odisha, 2 each in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and West Bengal, and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
More than 15 crore voters will decide the fate of 1289 candidates. More than one lakh polling booths have been set up across India. Voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases – April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23.
