IGP Parmraj Singh Umranangal granted bail in Behbal Kalan firing case

Faridkot trial court granted bail to IGP Parmraj Singh Umranangal in Behbal Kalan firing case on Monday. The Sessional Judge, Harpal Singh today granted him bail.

On February 27, the court sent IGP Parmraj Singh Umranangal into 14-day judicial custody. He was shifted from Faridkot jail to high-security Patiala central jail.

On March 7, Punjab and Haryana High Court granted blanket bail to IGP Parmraj Singh Umranangal. According to court orders, police will have to give 1-week advance notice prior to an arrest. This doesn’t apply to the Kotkpura firing incident case as the officer has already been arrested.

On February 18, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Punjab Police IGP Paramjaj Singh Umranangal in Behbal Kalan and Bargari firing case. According to the media sources, he was arrested from Chandigarh.

SIT has summoned IGP Paramjaj Singh, IG Jatinder Jain, IG Amar Singh Chahal, SP Paramjit Singh Pannu and SDM Harjit Sandhu for questioning on February 13. These officers were on duty during the firing incidents that took place at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan village.

IGP Paramjaj Singh was questioned earlier by the SIT in November last year also. It should be noted that last month SIT had arrested former SSP Moga Charanjit Sharma from his residence.
