Implement Guru’s teachings in daily life - Sukhbir Badal     Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged the Sikh community to implement the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji in their daily life on the occasion of ‘aagman’ of 550th ‘Parkashpurb’ of the great Guru even as he thanked the NDA government for fulfilling an age old demand of the Sikh community to establish a corridor for easy access to the last resting place of Guru ji at Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.     Addressing the ‘sangat’ at a programme organised at Gurdwara Ber Sahib by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Mr Sukhbir Badal said the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji including ‘kirt karna, vand shakna, sangat- pangat and equality of all were equally meaningful now as they were 500 years back and appealed to everyone to make them the cornerstone of their lives.   The SAD president also thanked Prime minister Narendra Modi for taking the initiative to establish the Kartarpur corridor on the demand of the Sikh community. He said it was a matter of joy that the union cabinet had accepted the demand put forward by the SAD. He said it was heartening that the foundation stone of the corridor was being laid on November 26 by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.     The SAD president also thanked the union cabinet for developing Sultanpur Lodhi as a heritage city besides creating “Pind Baba Nanak Da” on 100 acres of land in which the life history and teachings of the great Guru would be depicted. He said it was also a matter of pride that a Centre for Inter Faith Studies was being established at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. He said chairs in the name of the great Guru would be created in UK and Canada and that the Guru’s bani would be translated in all Indian languages.     Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore while speaking on the occasion said Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was a social reformer who preached that there is one God and that everyone can reach him without any intermediary. He said in today’s era of violence the Guru’s teachings of peace and universal brotherhood were most relevant. Union ministers Mahesh Sharma and Hardeep Singh Puri also graced the occasion. Mr Sharma read out PM Narendra Modi’s message on the occasion which emphasised that the Guru’s 550th anniversary would be celebrated world over in a befitting manner. Mr Puri highlighted that Sultanpur Lodhi would also be developed as  Smart City.     Akal Takth Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh in his ‘sandesh’ while emphasising that the ‘vichardhara’ of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji encompassed the entire mankind, thanked the almighty for listening to the prayers of the Sikh community and paving the way for construction of the Kartarpur corridor. He also appealed that all Gurdwaras lost to the community like the Dong Maar Gurdwara and the Gyan Godri Gurdwara be restored to it. SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said it was a matter of honour that the SGPC had been made nodal agency and knowledge partner for all religious and other programmes being held as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations. He also thanked the SAD president and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for the initiative taken by them to make the Kartarpur corridor a reality.   The function also saw prominent Sants including Baba Balbir Singh of Budha Dal, Sant Baba Harpal Singh Jholan wale, Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma and Baba Gazzan Singh Baba Bakale Wale (Tarna Dal) being honoured.
