Imran Khan may face arrest if he loses no-trust vote, says Pakistan Minister
Islamabad, April 3: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan may be arrested if he loses the no-trust vote against him in the country’s Parliament, said Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Sunday. According to a report by India Today TV, the Pakistani Minister claimed that 155 members of the ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party may resign en masse ahead of the no-confidence motion. “I guess they will arrest Imran Khan, they will not tolerate Imran Khan,” Sheikh Rashid Ahmad was quoted saying while referring to the Opposition that has tabled the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was allegedly attacked in London by an activist of the PTI party, said that Imran Khan should be arrested for 'provocation, incitement and sedition'. Facing the ouster, PM Imran Khan on Saturday called for nationwide protests in Pakistan ahead of the no-confidence vote in National Assembly. A day before the decisive no-confidence vote, Imran Khan had urged the country's youth to stage "peaceful protests" against a "foreign conspiracy" purportedly devised against his administration. "...till the time we do not hold peaceful protests against such foreign powers, we cannot see real change," the PM said, adding that Pakistan never had an independent foreign policy except for the time when former Pakistan Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was in power. This is not the first time Imran Khan has called people to protest; every time a no-confidence vote is scheduled, Pakistan's Prime Minister invites the public to come and support him. On March 27, for instance, he called 1 lakh supporters and held a public gathering at Islamabad's Parade Ground. Opposition groups submitted a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan on March 8, following the PPP's long march in Islamabad.
