Kuldeep Yadav joins Lasith Malinga in elite list after bagging 2nd ODI hat-trick


IND vs WI 2nd ODI: Kuldeep Yadav on Wednesday scripted history after India defeated West Indies by a huge margin of 107 runs in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series at the YS Rajashekara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. Kuldeep Yadav also known as Chinaman became the first Indian bowler to take two hat-tricks in ODI cricket after taking three for three against the West Indies in the must-win second ODI match.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav joined an elite list of bowlers in International cricket. While batting first in Vizag, India posted a huge total of 387 runs on the scoreboard, with magnificent centuries from Rohit Sharma (159) and KL Rahul (102). While chasing, West Indies were off to a good start as openers Evin Lewis (30) and Shai Hope (78) added a 61-run stand for the first wicket. However, Indian bowlers made a comeback and dominated the middle-order to bundle out the visitors on 280.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph on consecutive deliveries to turn the match in India’s favour and picked up his second hat-trick in ODIs. Chinaman joined an elite list of bowlers featuring Lasith Malinga, Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas, Saqlain Mushtaq and Trent Boult, who have claimed more than one hat-tricks in ODIs.

Sri Lankan pace machine Lasith Malinga took three hat-tricks in ODIs while all others have two. Kuldeep Yadav picked up his first ODI hat-trick against Australia in 2017. India thrashed West Indies by 107 runs to level the three-match ODI series 1-1 after losing the 1st ODI by eight wickets in Chennai. Now, India will take on West Indies in a decider at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, which will be played on December 22 (Sunday).
