India reports 16,906 new Covid-19 cases, 45 more deaths
New Delhi, July 13: India reported 16,906 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally of coronavirus cases to 4,36,69,850, as per the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll has reached 5,25,519 with 45 new fatalities.
The active Covid-19 cases have increased to 1,32,457. The active coronavirus cases comprised 0.3 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate was recorded at 98.49 per cent, the ministry added.

An increase of 1,414 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. As many as 17 deaths were reported from Kerala, 13 Maharashtra, five West Bengal, two Gujarat and one each from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
A total of 5,25,519 deaths have been reported so far in the country, including 1,47,991 from Maharashtra, 70,170 from Kerala, 40,125 from Karnataka, 38,028 from Tamil Nadu, 26,285 from Delhi, 23,548 from Uttar Pradesh and 21,251 from West Bengal.
Meanwhile, amid a sharp increase in new cases of Covid-19, the Manipur Government on Tuesday ordered the closure of all schools across the state till July 24. A notification issued by the Manipur government said, "As Covid-19 cases increase and the test positivity rate ratio is over 15 per cent in the state, all schools (Govt/Private) of the state will remain closed till July 24." Manipur on Tuesday reported 59 fresh COVID-19 cases, the state health bulletin informed.
On Monday, 47 persons tested positive for coronavirus infections. The Directorate of Health Services in the state said Manipur also witnessed 15 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The cumulative cases in the state now stand at 66,135 while the state has seen 57,264 recoveries.
