After losing three wickets on day 2, Teunis de Bruyn and Anrich Nortje started the game on day 3, where Nortje (3) was caught by Kohli off Mohammed Shami. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis was trying his best to put Proteas back on the track, but no one gave him the support as Bruyn (30) was dismissed by Umesh Yadav in the 53rd over, and Quinton de Kock (31) was sent back to the pavilion by Ravichandran Ashwin.
Jadeja was also looking for wickets and he trapped Senuran Muthuswamy (7). Later, Faf du Plessis became a victim of Ashwin as he edges a straighter one that took the outer edge and was gobbled up by Rahane in the slip. Keshav Maharaj and Philander tried their level best to save Proteas from the follow-on. However, their determined partnership failed to get them past the safe mark.
