18th Asian Games: India wraps pool games with an emphatic 20-0 win over Sri Lanka India wrapped up its pool games in men's hockey of the 18th Asian Games with an emphatic 20-0 win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The win, fifth from as many matches, keeps India at the top of pool A. In the process India notched up an impressive tally of goals, scoring 76 and conceding only three in five games so far. Though the last game was of only academic interest, India did some experiments, including withdrawal of goalkeeper in last 10 minutes, besides trying different combination in taking penalty corners and also in using flanks in attacks. Seven goals in the third quarter and six in the final quarter  made Sri Lanka suffer one of its biggest defeats in Asian Games. Though Sri Lanka had beaten both Hong Kong and Indonesia in earlier pool games, but the humiliating defeat in the last game was a dampener. Like the last game against Korea India started with the opening goal through a penalty stroke conversion by drag flicker Rupinder Pal Singh, India scored seven of its goals through penalty corners, majority of them coming from the stick of Harmanpreet Singh. He scored three while Rupinderpal Singh also scored twice from penalty corners. India's top scorer was Akashdeep Singh who scored six, including a hat trick. Mandeep Singh (three), Lalit Kumar (two) while Dilpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas and Vivek Sagar (one each) were the other scorers for the defending champions. -PTC NEWS
