Youth Olympic Games: Indian men, women record identical 5-2 wins in Hockey 5s

Youth Olympic Games: Indian men, women record identical 5-2 wins in Hockey 5s Assuring themselves of berths in quarter-finals of the 3rd Youth Olympic Games Hockey 5s competition, Indian men and women teams recorded identical 5-2 wins in their respective pool games on Thursday. While Indian men beat Canada, the women team beat South Africa. Also Read: Youth Olympic Games: Hockey 5s for women: India starts with 4-2 win over Austria Though Indian men and women teams lost their games yesterday, women against the hosts Argentina and men against the defending champions Australia, with their wins against Canada and South Africa today, they have qualified for the knockout stage. A brace of goals by Sanjay and supplemented by scoring efforts by Anand Shivam, Sudeep Chirmako and Rahul Kumar Rajbahar, India had little trouble in disposing off the challenge of Canada in its last pool encounter. For Canada both the goals were scored by Rowan Childs, captain of the team. After Mumtaz Khan had given India lead in the 2nd minute,  Kayla da Waal shot back to bring South Africa at par. Goals by Reet and skipper Lalremsiami followed by goals by Ishika Chaudhary and Mumtaz Khan put India in a commanding position with 5-1 lead. However,, Angela Welham scored a minute before the final whistle to make the score 2-5. Quater-finals will be played from October 12. -PTC NEWS
