His father Air Marshal S. Varthaman (Retired) and mother Shobha Varthaman were cheered by passengers when they boarded a flight from Chennai to New Delhi. Pakistan on Wednesday captured Abhinandan Varthaman after his MIG-21 fighter jet was hit by Pakistan Air Force near LoC in Jammu & Kashmir. According to media reports, he was first taken to Lahore from Rawalpindi. He was handed over to the International Committee of Red Cross under the rules of Geneva Convention. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced that Pakistan will release Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan. He further said that Pakistan is releasing Indian pilot tomorrow as a goodwill gesture.
