Indore priests perform 'Mahamrityunjaya Jaap' for Lata Mangeshkar

Two days after the reports claimed that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar's health condition is deteriorating, priests in Madhya Pradesh's Indore temple performed 'Mahamrityunjaya Jaap' on Tuesday for her speedy recovery and long life. At least 21 brahmins in Indore's Ganesh temple participated in the ritual and chanted 'Mahamrityunjaya', informed the head priest of the shrine. " Lata Ji belongs to Indore, she has glorified our city in the world," he added. The Mahamrityunjaya mantra, also known as the Triyambaka Mantra, is considered to be the most powerful Shiva Mantra which bestows longevity, wards off calamities and prevents untimely death. For the unversed, Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital after she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia a few days ago. Dr Pratit Samdani, who's treating her at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, has said that "Singer Lata Mangeshkar needs care, which is why she'll remain under doctors' supervision in ICU for a few more days. Her condition is the same as before; no one's allowed to meet her yet." After learning about Lata Mangeshkar's health condition, several fans and members from the film industry and other fields took to social media to wish her a speedy recovery. "Prayers for your speedy recovery @mangeshkarlata," Abhishek Bachchan tweeted. Reportedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also enquired about the health of Lata Mangeshkar. Earlier, Dr Pratit Samdani had informed, "She has both Covid-19 and pneumonia. Due to old age, it will take time to recover properly." Lata Mangeshkar, 92, was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital after she tested positive for Covid-19 a few days ago. She got in touch with one of her staff members, who was also Covid-19 positive. The singer was earlier hospitalised in 2019 as well for a serious lung ailment and pneumonia.
