At least 26 inmates of Punjab’s Ludhiana Central Jail have been tested positive for coronavirus, Chief Medical Officer Rajesh Kumar Bagga said on Sunday. According to the information, all of them have been kept in a separate barrack at the jail.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in Ludhiana has crossed 1000-mark on Sunday. Ludhiana is now having the highest number of coronavirus cases in Punjab.
Ludhiana has reported more than 180 cases in the last 3 days that also include 3 doctors, 2 staff nurses, 3 health care workers, who were diagnosed with the pandemic.
The death toll in the district has gone up to 25. Ludhiana has reported the highest number of cases in the month of June. The number of active coronavirus cases in the district has increased to 502 while a total of 1012 samples were tested on Saturday.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been warning about the coronavirus peak in Punjab. Recently, he stressed the need of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. He had also said that the peak can be here anytime by July, August or September. “We have to be ready,” he had said.
