Jalandhar-based Simran Singh has been arrested for luring people with the promise of well-paid jobs abroad by spiking their drinks to steal their belongings. He also allgedly raped women. Bhopal police said that he preyed on over 30 people, mostly women. Inspired by Drishyam film, Simran went on a crime spree across eight cities. Three of his victims were from Bhopal. One of them includes a rape vitim, a middle-aged Mumbai woman, whome he lured in Madhya Pradesh and robbed her for more than Rs 2 lakh.
Afterwards, the woman approached the police and he was arrested. In another incident, he met Rajendra Gunekar, from Mumbai, and promised him to arrange European work visas. He took Gunekar and his friend, Anil Pawal, to a hotel in Bhopal, where he gave them a coffee. He decamped with gold rings, cash and a cheque for Rs 2 lakh that was encashed the same day.
Meanwhile, a Colonel living in Bhopal lost Rs 7 lakh to him. Singh robbed him after making connection with his woman caretaker. He raped her as well. As per reports, Simran cheated victims in Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, Dehradun, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Barabanki. Also, the police said that he took inspiration from Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam, throwing away victims’ phones in trains.
