IPL 2021 likely to have 9 teams
Ahmedabad in IPL 2021: After a power-pack season of Indian Premier League this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly not considering to cancel the IPL 2021 auction event. IPL 2020 final was played between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals where MI Paltan outplayed Delhites to lift the IPL trophy for 5th time.
As IPL 2020 ended, the reports have suggested that the board is in no mood to cancel the IPL 2021 auction event scheduled for next year.

It may be recalled that the IPL 2020 was scheduled to be played in March but was postponed due to the pandemic. However, the board managed to organize the event in the UAE.
Earlier, it was reported that the BCCI might cancel the mega auction scheduled for next year as there wasn’t much time left for IPL 2021.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the board will announce the 9th team in IPL 2021 which is said to be the Ahmedabad.
As per the sources, the BCCI asked franchises to be prepared for an auction in a couple of months. Though it was not official, the board has asked the franchises to be ready as it is likely to go ahead as planned.
Moreover, as a new team is coming in, the auction should take place now rather than deferring it by a year, a franchise official said.
The report said that the ninth team will be from Ahmedabad and as a corporate house is looking for making the new Sardar Patel Stadium as its home ground.
