Irrfan Khan has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour

In a statement on Twitter on Friday, Irrfan Khan said that he has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour and will be travelling abroad for his treatment.

Referring to rumours that were circulated soon after the news of his ill health spread, Irrfan, 51, expounded that "NEURO is not always about the brain" and adequate research must be conducted to gain knowledge of it.

Neuroendocrine tumours are described as rare and can occur anywhere in the body. Most neuroendocrine tumours occur in the lungs, appendix, small intestine, rectum and pancreas. They can be non-cancerous or malignant.

With a quote from author Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind, Irrfan began his statement as he thanked fans for their love and support that has made him hopeful.
