ISIS responsible for Barcelona attack, 13 dead, 100 wounded
ISIS on Thursday afternoon in Spain claimed responsibility of the terror attack in Barcelona. Spanish officials have confirmed that 12 people are dead while 80 have been seriously injured in a terror attack in Barcelona. The attack was reported on the busy tourist filled street called Las Ramblas in Barcelona Spain.
The white van drove into the popular shopping and food district traveling 600 meters through the pedestrian area, according to Rac1, a Catalan radio station. The driver and another person fled the scene, Spanish newspaper reported.
ISIS on Thursday afternoon claimed responsibility for the terror attack in Barcelona that killed at least 12 people and wounded 80 others.
The terror group took credit for the assault via its propaganda arm, according to SITE Intel Group.
"The perpetrators of the attack in #Barcelona are Islamic state soldiers and carried out the operation on command of [ISIS' leader] of targeting coalition countries," the ISIS release stated.
The news agency Amaq, which represents the Islamic State, said in a statement that the Barcelona attackers were soldiers of the extremist group.
Authorities said a van was driven onto a sidewalk and hit pedestrians. A suspect was arrested more than an hour after the incident, police said, describing the suspect as a “terrorist attacker.” Police in Barcelona said unconfirmed reports of a second attacker holed up in a bar were false.
The Mossos d'Esquadra, the police force of the Catalan autonomous region, tweeted it had arrested one suspect.
The driver of the vehicle fled on foot.
A man has been arrested in connection with the van attack, local police confirmed an hour later. A second van linked to the attack has been found in the small town of Vic in Catalonia and the investigation is on.
