An Indian Army jawan and two terrorists were killed in an encounter in a village in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the officials said. As per the report, the encounter took place when the security forces initiated a joint operation in Posta-Potra village in the Gundana area, 26 km from Doda town, after they received information about the presence of some militants in the area.
During the encounter, an Army jawan was critically injured in the firing from the militants and later succumbed to injuries, they said. Meanwhile, the security forces blew up a three-story house, where the militants were believed to be trapped. Later, the security forces found the bodies of two terrorists from under the rubble of the house.
However, a search operation is still underway at the site. A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was killed in the encounter. He was identified as Tahir, alias Uqaab, a resident of Pulwama district. Meanwhile, the identity of the second militant is yet to be ascertained.
The Inspector-General of Police, Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh, said that one of the hiding terrorists was killed in the gunfight. As per the report, the officials said that joint teams of Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, police and CRPF launched a search operation on Saturday night after receiving inputs about the presence of two suspected terrorists in the village.
While the security forces were moving towards the target area, they came under heavy fire at around 7.30 am, which was retaliated. The terrorists took shelter in a house after a brief encounter in the open. This is the second encounter between the security forces and terrorists in the Doda district this year. Earlier, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Haroon Abbas was killed in the here by the security forces on January 15. Earlier this month, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were arrested along with arms and ammunition in the district.
