In a major incident, a 60-year-old woman was killed while another was injured after Pakistan attacked forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
As per the report, she has been identified as Rashmi Bi, who is a resident of Lanjote village in Mendhar. The other person injured has been identified as Hakam Bi of the same village. The 58-year-old Hakam Bi has received several injuries.
A defence spokesperson said that Pakistan resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing in Balakote and Mendhar sectors of Poonch district at around 2 am on July 8. To this, the Indian Army retaliated befittingly and the firing stopped by about 2:45 am.
Meanwhile, no injury has been reported on the side of the Indian Army. As per the sources, the injured woman has been taken to the nearby primary health center in Dhargloon from where she was referred to Government Medical College in Rajouri.

In June, the Indian Army had lost 5 of its soldiers during shelling by Pakistan along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors.
