More than 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and others were injured after terrorists targeted a vehicle in which they were travelling, with an explosive in Pulwama. The explosion took place on Thursday afternoon at Goripora area in Awantipora in Pulwama district in Jammu & Kashmir.

According to media reports, terrorists triggered the blast when the CRPF personnel were travelling on a bus through the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The gunshots were also reported from the spot after the explosion. An improvised explosive device was the cause of the blast. The authorities have termed this attack as a "serious breach" of security.

According to media reports, there were 70 vehicles in the convoy and one of the vehicles came under attack. The convoy was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar.

Terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
