Japan sets up semi-final clash with India, Malaysia to take on Pakistan Defending champion India will take on Asian Games champion Japan while Pakistan will play Malaysia in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions Trophy in Muscat on Friday. While Pakistan caused a sort of flutter by defeating Asian Games silver medalist Malaysia by a solitary second half goal, Japan had a convincing 5-0 win over the hosts, Oman, to bring to an end the round robin games. Malaysia and Pakistan will play again tomorrow, this time for a place in the gold medal match. India remained the only unbeaten team in the round robin games winning four of its five games beside playing a draw against Malaysia. Pakistan's win against Malaysia may be a morale booster as it brought them to number two position on the table behind India while Malaysia was relegated to third place on goal difference. Both Pakistan and Malaysia had 10 points each but since Pakistan had better goal average, it finished second. The pool positions, however, had no impact on semi-final line up. Malaysia and Pakistan will be facing each other for the second time in two days tomorrow while India will be playing Japan after a gap of few days. India had beaten Japan 9-0 in the pool game.
