Journalist Assault Case: Session court Faridkot dismissed appeal against SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal

Session court Faridkot dismissed appeal against Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal in the journalist assault case on Thursday evening. On March 13, District and Sessions Judge Satvinder Singh had directed former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to appear in his court on March 15 in a 12-year-old attempt-to-murder case. Naresh Kumar Sehgal, a Kotkapura resident, had filed an appeal in the court, challenging Sukhbir’s earlier acquittal in the case. After an appeal was filed by Sehgal, the court had started the trial in the case in May 2016. On April 2, 2016, the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Faridkot, had acquitted Sukhbir. On June 30, 2006, a case was registered against Sukhbir at the Kotkapura police station on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after Sehgal had approached the court. He had accused Sukhbir and some of his associates of making a murderous attack on him on September 5, 1999, during the electioneering for parliamentary elections in Kotkapura. -PTC News
