Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to junk the Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh Commission immediately as it had lost its credibility after Amarinder had made it clear that it would be used to implicate former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

It is clear that Justice Ranjit does not have clean hands. He cannot be expected to come out with a fair verdict. Apart from this, Commission should be winded up immediately”, said SAD senior leader and mp Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

The Akali leader said the very fact that Justice Ranjit had been chosen to head the Commission to look into the incidents of sacrilege well knowing that he was a known Akali baiter was indicative of the real motives of the Congress government and Capt Amarinder Singh. “It is also well known that Justice Ranjit and
Amarinder are drinking buddies. That is why Amarinder is confident that the retired judge will deliver a tailor made recommendation to suit his political needs”, he added.
Congressman Sukhpal Khaira
Mr Dhindsa said in the given circumstances any finding of Justice Ranjit would have no meaning. “Justice Ranjit has a known history of mingling with Congress leaders. He is also a close relative of former Congressman Sukhpal Khaira. It was in this capacity that he came close to Capt Amarinder. The
chief minister has now conveniently made him head of a Commission to launch a vendetta against the SAD. This is being done to divert public attention from the abysmal failure of the Congress government on all fronts.
Further, people are asking why Amarinder is failing to deliver on any of his promises. Be it loan waiver, unemployment allowance or augmentation of social welfare benefits. Additionally,since Amarinder has no answer to any of these questions he is resorting to wild allegations against Badal Sahab”.
SAD-BJP government
The Akali mp said the SAD was committed to unearthing the conspiracy under which a chain of sacrilege events occurred in Punjab. “The earlier SAD-BJP government even forwarded the case to the CBI. Our purpose was to get to the main culprits as well as their bosses. It would be done in a conclusive and professional manner. Furthermore, it is unfortunate that this effort is being undermined. The entire issue is being politicized.
The CM has even prejudged the inquiry and announced that it will hold Mr Badal guilty. In addition to this, it shows how much regard he has for legal and constitutional procedures”.
Asking the government to do away with the Ranjit Singh Commission, Mr
Dhindsa said it should also simultaneously ask the CBI to expedite its investigations into the cases of sacrilege. So that the real culprits are brought before the people”.
