Kanpur Riots 1984 – Hearing on 16th Aug
The government wakes up to the Kanpur Riots of 1984. Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Center and the UP government and has ordered the setting up of a SIT (Special Investigation Team).
The next hearing will be on August 16, 2017.
Lately, Sikhs living in Kanpur had issued a warning that if the government does not take a decision on the Kanpur Riots 1984 they will leave Kanpur and move to Punjab.They had demanded that all the old files should be reopened and all the culprits should be subjected to strict action.
Many Sikhs had lost their lives in Kanpur in the 1984 Sikh massacre. After Delhi, the violence in Kanpur had created terror and more than 300 Sikhs had lost their lives.
In case of killing 127 Sikhs in Kanpur, a notice has been issued to the Central Government on behalf of the Supreme Court. The Central Government has been asked to respond by August 16.
The Delhi-based Gurudwara Management Committee has demanded that a monitoring committee be set up on the SIT investigating so that the truth of the junkies is closed can come out.
The Supreme Court has sought answers on the status of locations where charge sheet is to be filed from the Special Investigation Team. He same will be heard on August 16.
