In the wake of the recent lathicharge on protesting farmers in Karnal, Haryana, a kisan mahapanchayat was organised in Karnal on Monday. It was attended by a large number of farmers. The mahapanchayat, which was addressed by farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni, sought FIRs against those involved in the recent lathicharge on farmers in Haryana's Karnal. They served an ultimatum till September 6. He also threatened to gherao the Mini-Secretariat in Karnal from September 7 if the demands were not met.

The farmer leaders demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family and job to the son of the deceased farmer. All farm unions of Haryana had decided to raise the issue before the SKM. He also sought a financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each to the injured farmers. It was also decided that on September 7, farmers would gather at the Karnal grain market On August 28, several farmers were injured after the police reportedly resorted to lathicharge to disperse protesters who were going towards Karnal to protest against a BJP meeting, which was to be attended by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP state president OP Dhankhar.
