Kisan Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar: BKU's Rakesh Tikait accuses Modi government of selling country
New Update
With just a few months to go for the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states, including Punjab and Haryana, organised Kisan Mahapanchayat at Muzaffarnagar on Sunday. The call for the mahapanchayat was given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading the agitation against the three black farm laws at the Delhi borders since November 26, 2019.
Addressing a massive gathering at Government Inter College ground in Muzaffarnagar, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait alleged that the Union Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was selling the country.

“Such mahapanchayats will be organised across the country in the days to come. We have to stop the country from getting sold. Farmers should be saved, the country should be saved; business, employees and youth should be saved. This is the aim of our rally,” Rakesh Tikait added.
Among other prominent leaders who were seen on the stage were Medha Patkar and Yogendra Yadav. Kisan Mahapanchayat was attended by thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states.
As per reports, farmers belonging to 300 organisations spread across different states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra and Karnataka gathered for the event. More than 5,000 ‘langars’ (community kitchen) were organised. The district authorities had posted police personnel at the residences of Union Minister Sanjiv Balyan and BJP MLA Umesh Malik as a precautionary measure.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha had on Saturday claimed that thousands of farmers from 15 states had reached Muzaffarnagar for the event.
The farmers’ protest against the three contentious farm laws has completed over nine months. They have been demanding the repeal of the laws, which they are afraid will do away with the MSP system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporations.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Sunday described the protesting farmers as “our own flesh and blood” and suggested that the government should re-engage with them in reaching common ground.
