Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj

Kulbhushan Jadhav mother and wife met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the Ministry of External Affairs officials. The 40-minute meeting between Kulbhushan Jadhav and his wife and mother took place after 22 months on Monday at the Pakistan Foreign Office in Islamabad, but with a glass panel separating them and spoke through a speakerphone. The meeting came after The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) asked Pakistan in May to stay execution of 47-year-old Kulbhushan Jadhav. The Foreign Office also issued a new video message of Jadhav in which he is seen thanking the Pakistan government for arranging a meeting with his wife and mother. It was the first time that Jadhav was meeting his family since his arrest in March, and Pakistan portrayed it as a humanitarian gesture to mark the birthday of the country's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh and a Pakistani woman official, TV footage showed Kulbhushan Jadhav family entering the main building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the door shutting behind them. The meeting, expected to last around 30 minutes, started at around 1.35 pm. This is the first meeting between Jadhav and his family since his arrest on March 3 last year. -PTC News
