Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Punjab minister to handover cheques to kin of four farmers, one scribe

Punjab Agriculture Minister Randeep Singh Nabha will handover a cheque for Rs 50 lakh each as compensation to the families of four farmers and one journalist, who were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence earlier this month. Also read | Gauri Lankesh murder: SC sets aside HC order quashing charge sheet against accused for KCOCA offences Both Chhattisgarh and Punjab governments had announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to families of four farmers and a journalist killed in the violence that broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had said the Lakhimpur violence reminded him of the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre in 1919. He alleged that the UP Government had made a "mockery" of democracy.
