Lightning in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh claims nearly 115 lives; PM Modi extends condolences

Thunderstorms and lightning wreaked havoc in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for the past two days, claiming around 115 lives while at least 32 are injured. The lighting also caused widespread damage to the property in the two states. According to the numbers issued by the Disaster Management Department in Patna on Thursday, the lightning claimed around 83 lives in Bihar. As per the report, a total of 23 districts in Bihar reported fatalities that include 13 deaths in Gopalganj, followed by 8 in Madhubani. 6 deaths were reported each from Siwan and Bhagalpur while East Champaran, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Banka reported five deaths each. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, the lightning killed 9 in Deoria, followed by 6 in Prayagraj, 3 in Ambedkarnagar and 2 in Barabanki. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning on Friday in at least 8 districts of Bihar, where more than 80 people were killed on Thursday. He took to Twitter and wrote: "In some districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, heavy rains and lightning-caused tragic news of the death of many people.
