Little more efforts and Kartarpur Sahib could have been in India: Rajnath Singh in Punjab rally

Sujanpur (Punjab), February 4: During a rally at the poll-bound state of Punjab on Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that a "huge mistake" was committed while drawing the country's boundary in 1947. He added that 'Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib would have been part of India if little more effort was made.' Speaking at an election rally here, the Defence Minister said Gurdwara Kartapur Sahib, which is the final resting place of Guru Nanak, is only about four-five km away from International Border. "If little efforts were made, Kartarpur Sahib would have been in India only," he added. Rajnath Singh further said vested interests were trying to create divisions between various communities, however, the government will not allow that to happen. The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also hailed the Union Budget 2022-23 presented in the Parliament on February 1 and said that a sum of Rs 2.37 lakh crore has been allocated towards procurement of crops at minimum support price for the first time in the history of the country. BJP will contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections in alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Dhindsa led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). Notably, former chief minister Amarinder Singh earlier said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be coming to Punjab soon to campaign for the assembly elections. This announcement gains significance in the backdrop of PM Modi's visit to Punjab last month where his Ferozepur event was called off citing a major security lapse. Punjab will go to the polls on February 20, with the counting of votes on March 10. Also Read | Punjab reports 1,514 fresh Covid cases, positivity rate at 4.37% -PTC News
