62% of Parliament operations are digital: Om Birla

Talking about the upcoming session of the Parliament, the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday said that "We will go 100 percent digital eventually." Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the 4th session of the 17th Lok Sabha will commence on September 14. The Session is likely to conclude on October 1, 2020, the Lok Sabha Secretariat had said. "For the first time in the history of Parliament, all members have sent their questions through online medium. We have successfully made 62 percent of our operations digital," Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said. He further said that "All members will undergo COVID-19 testing. The attendance of parliamentarians will be recorded through a mobile app. The session will commence from September 14." Adding, Om Birla said that "It's challenging for us amid pandemic but we've to prove ourselves to people to whom we are accountable." Also Read | Amid COVID-19 pandemic, Lok Sabha session to commence from September 14 He announced that 257 members will sit in Lok Sabha while 172 in the visitors gallery, rest will be in Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, both the sessions will function consecutively while the arrangements are being done for the virtual address in Lok Sabha. The sanitisation will be done on regular basis.
