Devotees Make Lord Ganesh Sculpture Using Sugarcane; Shuns Out PoP Sathya Sai trust in Bengaluru has made Ganesh idol using sugarcane shunning out Plaster of Paris (PoP) completely.  Every year, there are reports about pollution being caused after idols are immersed in water bodies following the 10-day celebration of Ganesh Chathurthi. To mitigate it, Sathya Sai trust went towards eco-friendliness. Mohan Raj, a member of the trust told our sources, "We decided to go eco-friendly this time. The colours and PoP causes damage to the creatures of the water, when immersed in it. After the Pooja the sugarcane which is used to make the idol will be distributed in the public.” Nearly five tons of sugarcane was used to complete the magnificent idol of Lord Ganesh. Avinash, a worker who made sugar cane Ganesha told the sources that it took him one and a half month to create the idol. The sales of eco-friendly Ganesh idols have seen a sharp rise this year in the city. This year, Eco-friendly Ganesha idols are those that are made out of clay, natural fibres, papers and other biodegradable materials. This year, there is huge demand of eco-friendly Ganesh idol. People are avoiding idols made of plaster. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will begin from September 13. -PTC NEWS
