Madras High Court directs centre to ban TikTok The Madras high court on Wednesday asked the central government to ban popular Chinese video application TikTok citing that it was “encouraging pornography”. TikTok is a mobile application that allows users to create and share short videos with amazing effects. Also Read: Modi warns against harassment of Kashmiris, says every citizen's duty to protect them A Madurai-based senior lawyer-cum-social activist, Muthu Kumar, filed a petition at the Madras High court on Wednesday saying that children who use TikTok were more exposed to the sexual predators. He cited pornography, cultural degradation, suicides, and child abuses as his reasons to ban the app. He had requested the court to direct a ban on the application. Commenting on this issue, TikTok spokesman said that the company was committed to abiding by local laws. It was awaiting a copy of the court’s order, following which they would decide the next step towards it.
