New Delhi, July 9: Days after clearing the floor test to prove their government’s majority, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, along with Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan," Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Twitter. According to the sources, Shinde and Fadnavis are now expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda. Earlier, on Friday, Shinde and Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the new government to be formed in Maharashtra and many other subjects.

The new Maharashtra government's Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have already taken the oath of office; the remaining ministers are to be sworn in. According to sources, more than a dozen members of the Shinde camp might become ministers. Along with Shinde, the current eight ministers of the Uddhav cabinet had joined his revolt. They might all be reinstated as ministers.

The meeting is significant given the speculations that the Maharashtra cabinet will be expanded in two stages and that the first announcements of the cabinet will be made prior to the presidential elections. On June 30, a day after Uddhav Thackeray resigned, Shinde took the oath of office as chief minister. As the deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP was sworn in. On the final day of the two-day special session of the House, Shinde won the floor test in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. 99 MLAs opposed the motion of confidence, while 164 backed it in the 288-member House.

During the trust vote, three legislators did not participate in the vote, including Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar of the Congress.
