The Election Commission of India, on Saturday, addressed the media to announce dates for Assembly Elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. Elections will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will be done on October 24. Both states will go to polls in a single phase. With the announcement of dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force and the election process has officially started in Haryana and Maharashtra. Addressing the media, chief election commissioner Sunil Arora said, "The 5-year term of the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra expires on November 2 and November 9 respectively." Chandigarh: Haryana man pays bribe to escape challan, files plaint against 2 cops The term of the 288-member Maharashtra assembly will expire on November 9 while that of the 90-member Haryana assembly will end on November 2. "Haryana has 1.82 crore registered voters and Maharashtra has 8.94 crore voters," Arora said. He also said officials visited both Maharashtra and Haryana to conduct on-ground surveys. He announced that 1.3 lakh EVM machines will be used in the Haryana Assembly Elections, while 1.8 lakh will be used in Maharashtra. -PTC News    -
