Major fire in Sector 53 furniture market, 25 shops gutted.
A major fire broke out in the furniture market alongside the road separating Sector 53 and 54 on Tuesday night, destroying around 25 shops.
The fire department of the municipal corporation received the call at 10.05 pm.Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. After two hours of struggle, the fire was partially brought under control.
According to a fire department official, After two hours of operation, we were able to douse the fire. However,the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained but prima facie it looks like a case of a short circuit due to improper wiring.
According to sources,furniture and foam material worth over Rs 1 crore were destroyed in a fire.
