Major Victory for Congress in the Bypoll results 2018 across 10 states

The results of the bypoll for 4 Lok Sabha seats, nine Assembly constituencies across 10 states were declared on Thursday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government at the Centre has tasted the might of a united opposition that is likely to challenge the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, using the same recipe to stop the Modi-led juggernaut. The Assembly constituencies where by-elections were held are Jokihat in Bihar, Gomia, and Silli in Jharkhand, Chengannur in Kerala, Noorpur in Uttar Pradesh, Tharali in Uttarakhand, Ampati in Meghalaya, Shahkot in Punjab and Maheshtala in West Bengal. While BJP was only able to win one Lok Sabha bypoll today it was a major victory for Congress and the other opposition parties. Major updates- Kairana became the ultimate battleground for the ruling BJP and combined opposition forces.  The ruling party filed Mriganka Singh, daughter of deceased sitting MP, and to everyone's shock, she was ousted by RLD's Tabassum Hasan by a huge margin. The RJD-BJP alliance tasted defeat in the Jokihat, Bihar Assembly seat. Nitish Kumar's JD(U) candidate Murshid Alam lost to RJD's Shahnawaz Alam by a margin of 41,224 votes. Already walking on a thin ice this mandate against Nitish Kumar indicated the mood of the people ahead of Lok Sabha elections. Assembly seats Noorpur, Shahkot, were snatched away from the BJP. The Noorpur UP Assembly constituency was won by Samajwadi Party by a margin of 6,211 votes. Congress' candidate Hardev Singh Ladi won the Shahkot assembly bypoll in Punjab. TMC is flexing its muscle after Dulal Chandra Das won the Maheshtala seat by 62,896 votes. RJD's Tejashwi Yadav also his say after his candidate defeated JD(U)'s sitting MLA while Congress president Rahul Gandhi in his own words is a Prime Ministerial candidate. -PTC News (with inputs)
