Here it is - Harish Chandra Mehra, a resident of Delhi’s Chandni Chowk was the one who saved the life of India’s first Prime Minister,Pandit Jawaharlal Nehr.Harish Chandra Mehra’s act of bravery made way for these annual bravery awards. publive-image In 1957, when PM Jawaharlal Nehru was attending a Ramleela performance, Harish Chandra Mehta was guarding the VIP enclosure a Boy scout. Suddenly, the tent caught fire and while people were unaware of the impending mishap, harish noticed it. Risking his life, Harish ran into the tent and rush Jawaharlal Nehru’s to safety. Harish fearlessly climbed the 20-foot pole and cut off the burning cloth with the help of his scout dagger. Touched by the Mehta's courageous act,Jawaharlal Nehru decided to honour Harish Mehta at a national platform.On 3 February 1958, Harish was awarded the first ever National Bravery Award at the Teen Murti Bhavan by the PM. -PTC News-
