Mod Nirmala Sitaraman Inaugurates Hussainiwala Bridge Today
Smt. Nirmala Sitraman, Minister of Defence inaugurated Hussainiwala Bridge on Sunday here in Ferozepur. It was inaugurated with traditional prayers of Sikhs and Hindus religions. It is an important bridge reconstructed after four spans of 280 feet long historic bridge and dedicated to the nation.
During 1971 India-Pakistan war, this bridge was destroyed to prevent the advances of Pakistan army. And in the present day, troops and the villagers of adjoining areas used to cross the Satluj using a makeshift wooden bridge.
This bridge is the lifeline of nearly 10 villages connecting Hussainiwala enclave with the rest of the country. It took nearly 47 years to replace this bridge and now it was completed by the construction company within the given target schedule.
Defence Minister inaugurated the Hussainiwala and paid homage to Martyrs and laid wreaths and also interacted with the local Army units and people and also paid a visit to Joint Check Post close to the international border.
Minister of Defence while addressing the function said, “I feel proud to be here today at the land of martyrs and top among known are Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.”
Later, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Cabinet Minister and Sher Singh Ghubaya, MP also presented a memorandum of demands of the area to the MoD separately.
Besides senior army official – Lt Gen Harpal Singh, Director General Border Roads and Lt Gen Surinder Singh Army Commander, Western Command, GOC Vajra Corps among the civil and police administration were also present in the inauguration. V.K.Gurjar, Commissioner, Ferozepur, B.S.Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner, G.S.Multani, ADC, SDM and Gurinder Singh Dhillon, IGP, Pritam Singh, SSP were also present.
