Mohali: 20-year-old woman commits suicide, partner charged with rape
Mohali: A 20-year-old woman committed suicide after a man raped her on the pretext of marriage on Tuesday in Zirakpur. The accused has been identified as the age of 23, who belongs from Uttar Pradesh. The victim and the accused were in a live-in relationship. The accused was earlier the neighbor of the victim in Panchkula. Later, they moved to a house in Zirakpur.
The victim's mother filed a complaint and said, that her daughter has been missing since July 8. She told that her daughter called her on Tuesday saying that she had returned home and may quit her life as the accused raped her on the pretext of marriage. The victim's mother rushed to the spot and the door was locked from inside. She then sneaks to the window and saw her hanging from a ceiling fan.

Her mother informed the police. Meanwhile, no suicide note has been found at the spot. The body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem, which will find out whether she is pregnant or not. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Likewise, the police have started looking for the accused.
