Mohali: 75-yr-old loses Rs 4 lakh as youth offers to help in the ATM A retired PSPCL employee allegedly fell victim to a debit card fraud when Rs 4,63,000 was allegedly siphoned off from his bank account. 75-year-old victim, Veer Singh who is a resident of Adarsh Nagar said that on May 8, he went to an ATM to withdraw Rs. 2000.  A youth was already standing in the ATM booth and offered to help him. The youth exchanged his ATM card and withdrew Rs 4,63,000 in several transactions later. However, the victim ignored the message he received of the transactions as he hadn’t withdrawn them. The incident took place in early August, but came to the fore a few days ago when he checked his account details from the bank. The police have registered a case of fraud at the Nayagaon police station. No arrest has been made so far. SI Yogesh Kumar said, “We are scanning CCTV cameras installed in nearby places.” He said a case had been registered under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the IPC. -PTC News
