Yadav, who worked as a mason at Nayagaon, along with his wife, had rented a room on the ground floor of a house in Mataur in the last week of April.

The crime was committed on May 2, while the body was found on May 5 after the neighbours had informed the police after foul smell had started emanating from the locked room. The police broke into the room and found the woman’s bloated body lying on the bed. Some beer bottles and contraceptives (condom) were recovered from the room.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Mataur police station.
