Molasses leakage into the Beas River: Necessary actions taken on sugar mill- Sukhbinder Sarkaria MLA Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal from SAD raised the issue of the contamination of water caused by the release of molasses from a sugar mill situated at Kiri Afghana village in Gurdaspur district. The National Green Tribunal fined the Punjab government Rs 50 crore over pollution caused to river Beas and Satluj. He further said that in spite of this, the government is not serious on this issue. The pollution issue came to light after some aquatic animals including dead fish were found floating due to a molasses spill in Beas from a sugar mill in Gurdaspur district.
