In the frenzy of #MeToo campaign, we tend to forget thousands of those women who have to endure far more brutality in their lives. And this Chhattisgarh incident is a cruel reminder of this.

An elderly woman and her daughter were allegedly stripped naked in the police custody. A 60-year-old woman and 27-year-old daughter were arrested on the charges of theft. They were stripped naked by women personnel in front of male police officials at City Kotwali Police Station in Bilaspur on October 18. The mother was a patient of hypertension. She requested medical treatment. But, the request was not heard. Their vital body parts were also infected with injuries. The crime came to light when both the victims were produced in court. They narrated their ordeal in the court. Due to the injuries, they were unable to walk.

The court ordered an inquiry into the matter. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued the notice to Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP).  The commission has issued a notice and asked for a report within 4 weeks.
