PM Narendra Modi announces economic package for self-reliant India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation over the issues related to the situation arising out of the novel coronavirus. PM Modi's address comes a day after he spoke to the chief ministers on the lockdown exit strategy. PM Modi announced an economic package for self-reliant India. He said that "I announce a special economic package today. This will play an important role in the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan'. The announcements made by the govt over COVID, decisions of RBI & today's package totals to Rs 20 Lakh Crores. "The economic package we have announced is Rs 20 lakh crore, almost 10 percent of GDP. Land, labour, liquidity, laws, all have been stressed upon. Will help cottage industries, MSMEs," he added. We had never seen or heard about such a crisis ever before, he said, adding that this is definitely unimaginable for mankind. "This was unprecedented. But humanity will not accept defeat from this virus. We have to not only protect ourselves but also move forward," he added. He also said that "More than 42 lakh people from different countries have been infected by a coronavirus, more than 2.75 lakh people have lost their lives due to the novel virus. In India, too many families have lost their dear ones, I express my condolences to them." "Today when the entire world is in crisis, we will have to further firm our resolve," PM Narendra Modi said. PM also said that "When the crisis started then not even a single PPE kit was manufactured in India, only a few N95 masks were available. Today, around 2 Lakh PPE kits and 2 Lakh N95 masks are manufactured in India daily." India is turning this crisis into an opportunity, PM Modi said. He also said that "When India talks about self-reliance, it does not advocate for a self-centered system. In India's self-reliance, there is a concern for the whole world's happiness, cooperation and peace." Meanwhile, he remembered the devastation in Kutch after the earthquake. He said that "I remember the devastation in Kutch after the earthquake. But Kutch got back on its feet. This shows our resolve. And today, we have both resolve and resources." With these steps, when India is being praised everywhere in the world, every Indian feels proud."
